The Senate Indian Affairs Committee held a hearing on Wednesday on a discussion bill to increase tribal participation in federal fish and wildlife programs.
Representatives of tribes and tribal organizations testified in favor of S.2301, the Native American Fish and Wildlife Resources Management Act. They said it would help them manage important cultural resources located on federal lands.
The draft bill directs the Department of Interior to enter into co-management agreements with tribes and Alaska Natives and to review other possibilities for partnership.
