Alaska Native village mail, food deliveries cut off

The Yupi'k Eskimo village of Ekwok, Alaska, has been cut off from the world due to a soggy runway that is preventing deliveries of mail, food and other supplies.

Planes have been unable to land at the village, population 130, since April 2. That has left elders and veterans anxiously awaiting benefit checks. Other residents have not received their income tax rebates and have not been able to pay their bills. One person had his phone service cut off.

The items people seem to miss the most are tobacco, soda, Pop Tarts and potato chips.
