Climbers say sacred rock belongs to everyone

The federal government is defending a pending ban on climbing at Cave Rock in Nevada.

The Washoe Tribe considers the rock a sacred place that should not be bothered. But the Access Fund, representing a group of climbers, says the rock belongs to everyone and should remain open. The climbing ban is on hold pending litigation filed by the group.

In several cases, the federal courts have uphold the government's sacred site policies but have not ruled on an outright ban on activities on federal land.
