The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe of New York says the Alcoa aluminum company must clean up dangerous chemicals it has dumped into the Grasse River.
Sediments in the river contain cancer-causing polychlorinated biphenyls, or PCBs. The tribe says the toxins pose a danger to people because they are being dislodged from the sediments.
Alcoa conducted a study with the Environmental Protection Agency that showed the PCBs were not secure. The company says it is studying the issue.
