Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh said Tim Giago's decision to run as an independent in the U.S. Senate race is "bad news" for Sen. Tom Daschle (D-S.D.).
On his morning radio show, Limbaugh called Giago a member of the "powerful" Oglala Sioux Tribe. Previously, Limbaugh has trumpeted claims of voter fraud on South Dakota's reservations during the extremely close matchup between Sen. Tim Johnson (D) and former congressman John Thune, a Republican. The election was decided by Indian voters.
Thune is running against Daschle this year. Giago, publisher of the Lakota Journal, was going to challenge Daschle in the Democratic primary, a race he would have most likely lost. He says his decision to run as an independent will highlight Native issues during the race.
