A retired federal judge who has been selected as a mediator for the Cobell trust fund lawsuit was an oil industry executive who has an oil tanker named after him, The Farmington Daily Times reports.
Former judge Charles Renfrew, 75, was legal counsel for Chevron in 1983 and became its director in 1984. The company named a 784-foot tanker for him.
Lead plaintiff Elouise Cobell and attorney Dennis Gingold announced the selection of Renfrew and professional mediator John Bickerman as mediators last night at a meeting with Navajo tribal members in New Mexico. Gingold did not mention Renfrew's involvement with the oil industry, the paper reported.
