Efforts underway to revive Plains art show

Indian artists, tribal leaders and art promoters in South Dakota are hoping to keep the Northern Plains Tribal Arts show alive.

The fest, held every September, was canceled by its sponsor, American Indian Services. The group says the show will return next year.

But supporters are trying to revive the event for this year. Officials from Sinte Gleska University, the tribal college on the Rosebud Sioux Reservation, are hoping to line up money and sponsors.

Some Indian artists say the cancellation is an opportunity to create a more inclusive show.
