The American Indian Science and Engineering held its 17th annual fair in Albuquerque, New Mexico, last week.
Five students, plus two alternates, won top honors at the fair. Rachelle Bill based her entry on a traditional Navajo remedy. Nathanael Willie researched the use of bacteria to clear up oil spills, like the Exxon spill that affected Alaska Natives.
The winners will head to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair May 9-15 in Portland, Oregon.
