The state of Washington's ban on killing wild steelhead has tribal fishermen, sport fishermen and local officials up in arms.
The ban doesn't affect the Quileute Tribe, which has a treaty right to catch the fish. But some worry the ban will fuel resentment of the tribe among non-Indians.
The state's ban is set to take effect April 1 and will end March 2006 in hopes of protecting dwindling runs of the fish.
