A report detailing alleged instances of racism against the Coast Miwok Tribe of California was delayed on Monday.
The Sonoma County Commission on Human Rights was set to vote on approving the report, which is based on the tribe's complaints of racism and hate speech. The report concluded that the tribe, also known as the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria, suffered "indirect prejudice."
The tribe collected newspaper articles, editorials and responses to its casino plan. Local residents Residents wrote things like "Indian speak with forked tongue," "Go back to your Indian land," "The only good Indian is a dead Indian," and "Dead Indians upcoming" on informational cards the tribe sent out.
