First Nations protest in Labrador turns violent

What started out as a takeover of the tribal offices in an Innu community in Labrador ended with a violent clash between tribal members and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

A group of adults and children entered Sheshatshiu First Nation Chief Paul Rich's office on Tuesday night. They were protesting lack of housing. Rich said he needs $10 million from the federal government because the tribe has no money.

On Wednesday night, the RCMP were called in and protesters said they used pepper spray. The office and five police cars were damages in the melee.
