Two Native Americans have been selected as the 2003 Man and Woman of the Year by an Arizona leadership organization.

Ivan Makil, former president of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, and Diana "Dede" Yazzie Devine, president and CEO of Native American Connections Inc., will be honored at a reception next month. They were chosen by Valley Leadership for "their unparalleled and selfless contributions to improving our communities at large."

Makil led his tribe through a major expansion of its business holdings. Devine runs a non-profit organization serving urban and reservation Indians.
