The sheriff and his deputy for the Montana county that is home to the Blackfeet Nation were arrested on Monday for defrauding the American Indian Livestock Feed Program.

Glacier County Sheriff Gary Racine and Deputy John P. Evans pleaded not guilty in federal court. They are accused of stealing $30,000 from the federal program by submitting false receipts for ranching on the Blackfeet Reservation.

The program provides financial assistance to ranchers on reservations who are affected by natural disasters that cut into their livestock feed. It is administered by the Farm Service Agency at the Department of Agriculture.
