Earl Old Person, the longtime chief of the Blackfeet Nation of Montana, spoke at the University of Montana audience on Thursday night.

Old Person said cooperation between tribal, state and federal governments is key to addressing problems facing Indian Country. He stressed the need for education, especially for young Natives.

Old Person said not enough has been done by the federal government to correct the mistakes of the past century. He said he was looking forward to the 2004 presidential election. Montana has an Indian population of about 7.4 percent and has 7 tribal members in the State Legislature.
