The Tohono O'odham Nation of Arizona would receive $1.4 million in federal funds under the Bush administration's new budget.
The tribe has been lobbying for funds to respond to increased security along the U.S.-Mexico border. The reservation's law enforcement department and hospital are overburdened by the influx of Mexican immigrants. Residents also complain.
The tribe says it has been using its own money to pay for increased costs.
