President Bush's new budget proposes to eliminate 65 programs and cut funding for 63 others.

The list affects programs in education, health, housing and law enforcement, according to The New York Times. The White House said the cuts will save $4.9 billion.

The House Budget Committee and House Ways and Means Committee each held hearings on the $2.4 trillion budget. The hearings for the Department of Interior's budget are usually held in March.
