A recent drought and growing numbers have bison on the Crow Reservation in Montana in search of food.

With hundreds of bison heading to public and private lands, the tribe and the Bureau of Indian Affairs are scrambling to manage the herd, which stands at about 1,100. Crews are busy trying to keep the animals on the reservation. About 200 have been killed, with most of the meat going to tribal members.

The tribe designated 22,000 acres as grazing land for the bison. The terrain is difficult, so there have been some accidents, although no one has been injured seriously.
