The Bureau of Indian Affairs held a public meeting on Thursday to discuss an off-reservation casino for the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake
Superior Chippewa Indians in Wisconsin.
Local support in Shullsburg is strong. Mayor Tom Lethlean and residents said they welcomed the tribe's proposed development.
"It’s overwhelming in support of the casino/hotel venture," Lethlean told the BIA, Wisconsin Radio Network reported.
The BIA is preparing an environmental impact statement for the project.
