R.I. governor appoints liaison for tribe

Rhode Island Gov. Donald Carcieri (R) appointed the state's first tribal liaison on Wednesday.

The liaison will work with the Narragansett Tribe, the only federally recognized tribe in the state. The tribe and state are battling over a tax-free smoke shop that the state raided in July. A decision is expected later this month.

Narragansett Chief Sachem Matthew Thomas met with Carcieri yesterday.
