State police defend actions in Narragansett raid

The Independent Review Committee studying the state of Rhode Island's raid of the Narragansett Tribe's smoke shop continued its public hearings on Wednesday.

The panel took additional testimony from state police officials. "We had no intentions of having any confrontations with anyone," state police Capt. Leo Messier said, The Providence Journal report.

But the panel isn't being allowed to hear from the rank-and-file officers. The union is blocking their testimony.

Narragansett Chief Sachem Matthew Thomas will testify today.
