Narragansett Tribe to lobby for changes in law

The Narragansett Tribe of Rhode Island is hoping public support will help overturn a federal law that limits its sovereign rights.

The tribe plans to raise funds and publicity to lobby Congress for changes. Currently, the tribe cannot open a casino under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.

The tribe also hopes to bring more land into trust. The tribe has an 1,800-acre reservation but owns properties elsewhere.
