Carcieri names panel to study raid

Gov. Donald Carcieri has named the members of a panel that will study the July 14 raid of the Narragansett Tribe's smoke shop. Brown University President Ruth Simmons will chair the panel. Other members include: Rabbi Leslie Gutterman, Retired Superior Court Judge Eugene G. Gallant, Retired Navy Rear Adm. Barbara McGann and Rev. Matthew Kai. From the descriptions posted on The Providence Journal, the panel doesn't seem to have a member with experience in Indian issues. Carcieri doesn't plan on imposing a deadline on the group's work.
