Narragansett chief meets with state lawmakers

Narragansett Chief Sachem Matthew Thomas met with the Rhode Island Legislature's Senate president and majority leader on Thursday to press the tribe's case. He appeared to draw a favorable response from Senate President William Irons to negotiate with the state over the tribe's smoke shop. But Gov. Donald Carcieri says resolution of the dispute over tax-free tobacco should be handled in court.
