Apache Trout

Attachment Description

The Apache trout, the state fish of Arizona, is one of only two species of trout native to the state. Found only in streams of the White Mountains in eastern Arizona, it was deemed endangered under the Endangered Species Act of 1973. The status was changed to threatened in 1975. On September 4, 2024, the U.S. Department of the Interior declared its comeback sufficient to remove it from the list entirely. Photo: U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
