FALL SESSION – GRANTS MANAGEMENT FOR TRIBAL ENTITIES
Fall Program Dates: August 21, 2024 to October 9, 2024
The Grants Management for Tribal Entities online course provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of the principles, practices, and strategies required to effectively manage grants within tribal communities. Offered virtually, this course equips learners with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the complexities of grant acquisition, administration, compliance, and reporting in a tribal context.
This course is offered through the Anderson School of Management at the University of New Mexico.
Grants Management for Tribal Entities is designed to be most helpful for:
- Tribal leaders and council members
- Tribal administrators and program managers
- Grant coordinators within tribal organizations
- Individuals interested in developing skills for effective grant management within tribal contexts

USDA SEEKS APPLICATIONS FOR GRANTS TO FUND COMMUNITY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS IN RURAL COMMUNITIES
Program Application Period:
Paper application deadline: July 15, 2024
Electronic application deadline: July 10, 2024
United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development is making up to $5 million in grants available under the Rural Community Development Initiative program. The program provides funding to organizations that provide financial and technical assistance for housing, community facilities, or community and economic development projects. Eligible applicants include public (including Tribal) organizations, nonprofit organizations, and qualified private organizations.

Solving common financial system hurdles, like managing timely financial reporting, meeting budgeting requirements, and helping overburdened accounting departments work effectively are common challenges for Tribes. Other obstacles include outdated, paper-based processes or inefficient technology practices that hinder organizational growth and agility, as well as a tight labor market and preferential in-Tribe hiring practices that keep Tribal accounting departments understaffed. Finance transformation is a strategic approach to structuring financial systems that can help Tribes address these foundational issues and improve their financial infrastructure.

5. JOBS:
SENIOR CONTROLLER, HABEMATOLEL POMO OF UPPER LAKE
The Controller oversees the accounting and financial reporting functions of the organization and should have a strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting, as well as current GASB statements. The Controller is responsible for the integrity and completeness of the financial statements, ensuring that the individual financial transactions are timely and accurately entered.
The Controller is part of the Financial Services Division of the primary government.
This position serves under the direction of the Executive Financial Director of the Financial Services Division. It requires the ability to interface with various members of the Division, tribal leadership, the accounting team, and all operational divisions of the primary government. Individuals must possess the ability to work and maintain the highest degree of confidentiality due to the sensitive nature of the work.
