Members of Sons of Membertou perform at the opening of the Smithsonian Folklife Festival on June 26, 2024.

Sons of Membertou are a Mi’kmaw drumming and singing group from Nova Scotia in Canada. They are among the dozens of participants at the 2024 Smithsonian Folklife Festival, whose theme is “Indigenous Voices of the Americas: Celebrating the National Museum of the American Indian.”

The festival runs from June 26 through July 1 on the National Mall. The event celebrates Indigenous peoples throughout North, Central and South America, serving as a commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI), which opened to the public in September 2004.

The opening ceremony for the festival took place at the NMAI in Washington, D.C. For more information, visit festival.si.edu.
