1. CONFERENCE:
2024 FALL FINANCE & TRIBAL ECONOMIES CALL FOR SESSION PROPOSALS
NAFOA invites community members to submit proposals for sessions at our upcoming 2024 Fall Finance & Tribal Economies Conference taking place September 23-24 at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront in San Diego, CA.

We value the expertise and insights of our diverse community in shaping the conference agenda. Tribal leaders, industry experts, and others with knowledge and experience in tribal finance, economic development, and related areas are encouraged to submit their ideas.

Submitting a proposal does not guarantee your session will be selected. Proposals will undergo a thorough evaluation by the NAFOA team to ensure that the selected sessions address the varied needs and interests within our community. Notification will be sent only to the individuals whose sessions are selected for the conference. If your proposal is accepted, NAFOA will coordinate and finalize the session details

2. ACCOUNTING:
GASB ISSUES STATEMENT ON FINANCIAL REPORTING MODEL IMPROVEMENTS, STATEMENT NO. 103 AVAILABLE
The Governmental Accounting Standards Board has issued guidance designed to improve key components of the financial reporting model—the blueprint for governmental financial reports. Statement No. 103 is now available.

SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION BENEFITS COORDINATOR (SOCIAL SECURITY SURVIVORS BENEFITS) TRAINING
Who is eligible to receive Social Security Survivors Benefits?

Survivors benefits are benefits paid to the surviving spouse and dependents of a deceased worker. Beneficiaries include widows, widowers (and divorced widows and widowers), and children who qualify. A surviving spouse, surviving divorced spouse, unmarried child, or dependent parent may be eligible for monthly survivor benefits based on the deceased worker’s earnings.

Social Security Administration will be hosting two webinar sessions on Tuesday, June 25th at 10am EST and Wednesday, June 26th at 1:30pm EST.

5. JOBS:
THE SAGINAW CHIPPEWA INDIAN TRIBE OF MICHIGAN IS SEEKING CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
Under the supervision of Tribal Council, direct and oversee all the financial activities of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribal Government, Soaring Eagle Resort, Saganing Eagles Landing, and Migizi EDC (dotted line reporting) including preparation of financial reports, summaries and forecasts for future business growth, logistical financial planning and safeguarding of tribal assets. Work closely with Tribal Council, Tribal Administration, CEO, the Treasury department and the Economic Development department to develop and implement strategies across the organization.
