President Joe Biden delivers remarks at the White House Tribal Nations Summit on December 6, 2023.
Biden was introduced by Bryan Newland, a citizen of the Bay Mills Indian Community who serves as Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs, a political position at the Department of the Interior. The president’s remarks lasted about 13 minutes.
Following his remarks, Biden signed an executive order in support of tribal sovereignty and self-determination. He was joined on stage by Newland and tribal leaders for the signing.
The summit took place over two days at Interior headquarters in Washington, D.C.
