Dancers touch elbows during a variation of the round dance at Friday’s powwow to celebrate the transfer of the Bison Range to tribal control. According to the Salish and Kootenai College website, the round dance traditionally consists of drummers singing in the center while dancers move in a circular motion around the floor. Dancers will often join hands while dancing, but during Friday’s celebration, in an apparent nod to COVID-19 protocols, dancers opted to touch elbows instead.
