The Senate Committee on the Judiciary holds an executive business meeting to consider pending nominations on March 10, 2022.

Following a discussion of other issues, the committee voted to approve the Sunshine Suzanne Sykes, a citizen of the Navajo Nation, to be United States District Judge for the Central District of California. The nomination can now be sent to the U.S. Senate for full consideration.

If confirmed, Sykes would be the first Native federal judge in California, which is home to the largest population of American Indians and Alaska Natives.
