Secretary Deb Haaland addresses the National Congress of American Indians on February 14, 2022.

Haaland is the first Native person to lead the Department of the Interior. She spoke at NCAI’s executive council winter session, which took place virtually due to COVID-19.

“Over the past year the Biden-Harris administration carefully sowed the seeds that will benefit Indian Country for generations to come,” Haaland, a citizen of the Pueblo of Laguna, said in her remarks.
