1. EVENTS:
MEET NAFOA’S NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AT #NAFOAFALL21
Meet and get to know NAFOA’s new Executive Director, Rico Frias, at #NAFOAFall21 in San Antonio, Texas, on September 27-28.

Face Mask Policy
NAFOA is looking forward to welcoming everyone safely in San Antonio and will continue to follow CDC guidelines. Since the CDC is now advising those vaccinated (either fully or partially) to wear face masks indoors in public, NAFOA is now recommending that all attendees (vaccinated and unvaccinated) wear a face mask while attending NAFOA’s Fall Conference.

Please note that all NAFOA staff and Grand Hyatt Hotel staff will be wearing masks.

2. MEMBER TRIBE NEWS:
INDIAN AFFAIRS ANNOUNCES $500,000 IN NABDI 2021 GRANTS AWARDED TO 10 FEDERALLY RECOGNIZED TRIBES
Indian Affairs’ Office of Indian Economic Development (OIED) announced last week that its Native American Business Development Institute (NABDI) program has awarded business development grants totaling $500,000 to 10 federally recognized American Indian and Alaska Native Tribes. The funding will enable the Tribes’ leaders to better evaluate and identify viable economic opportunities for their communities.

Congratulations to the following NAFOA Member Tribes:

  • Delaware Nation awarded $37,500 for an orchard and apiary products company feasibility study.

  • Oneida Nation awarded $65,000 for a beef and buffalo production plant feasibility study.

  • Walker River Paiute Tribe awarded $65,000 for a food sovereignty economic development feasibility study.

  • Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi Indians awarded $45,000 for an economic development recovery feasibility study.

3. TRAININGS:
GRANTS MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP
Grants Management encompasses the processes and administrative work that happens throughout the federal grant award lifecycle. This includes setting up for efficient and effective operation, self-monitoring and enforcement of compliance, procurement and financial accuracy, internal controls with policies and procedures, proper disbursement of funds, and ensuring the award is put to good use.

In this Virtual Training you will be provided a basic overview of the 3-part Webinar series for Grants Management, and be given an opportunity to ask those burning questions that all Grant Managers have about their federal award(s). Bring your funding-related burning questions and be prepared to better manage your federal grant award.

MILLE LACS BAND OF OJIBWE IS SEEKING EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE OFFICE OF GAMING REGULATION AND COMPLIANCE
The Executive Director of the Office of Gaming Regulation and Compliance (“OGR&C”) is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Gaming Regulatory Authority (GRA), subject to the ultimate control of the GRA Board. The Executive Director is responsible for the successful overall direction, administration, and coordination of all GRA operations and activities for the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe and oversees compliance monitoring, investigation, and enforcement of all applicable gaming laws and regulations for all gaming conducted on Band lands.
