The U.S. House of Representatives considers S.294, the Native American Business Incubators Program Act, on September 21, 2020.
The bill establishes a new program at the Department of the Interior to boost entrepreneurship and economic development in Indian Country. It takes into account the unique legal, policy and infrastructure challenges faced by small business owners on reservations.
Rep. Deb Haaland (D-New Mexico), a citizen of the Pueblo of Laguna, led debate on the measure on the House floor. The chamber passed the bill under a suspension of the rules.
Since S.294 already passed the U.S. Senate, it can be sent to President Donald Trump for his signature.
