The
Tule River Tribe will open a cannabis dispensary on its reservation in California, The Porterville Recorder reports.
The Eh-Lo Dispensary will be located at 31071 Hwy 190 in Porterville, according to
job openings posted by the Tule River Economic Development Corporation, the tribe's economic development arm. The 4,000 square-foot facility is expected to open in April, CEO Dennis Ickes told the paper.
Ickes also told the paper that the business will only sell marijuana products made by the tribe or by other tribes in California. It will operate under tribal regulation, not under state law.
Marijuana is otherwise legal under state law. But it remains illegal under federal law and, by extension, in Indian Country.
The Eh-Lo Dispensary will be located by the
Eagle Feather Trading Post #1.
