ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico -- “The Creator gifted us," Fawn Sharp, the president of the Quinault Nation, says in making her second bid for president of the National Congress of American Indians, the largest inter-tribal advocacy organization in the United States.

Sharp is seeking to become only the third woman in NCAI history to serve as president. She has the backing of her fellow trailblazers.

“After thoughtful consideration, we are jointly announcing our endorsement of President Fawn Sharp -- a proven, articulate tribal leader with substantive experience throughout Indian Country -- to be the next President of NCAI," Veronica Homer, who is Shasta and Mohave, and Sue Masten, a citizen of the Yurok Tribe, said in a joint statement.
