AUDIO/VIDEO: Kamala Harris at Frank LaMere Native American Presidential Forum

The Frank LaMere Native American Presidential Forum concluded after two days in Sioux City, Iowa, in the homelands of the Omaha, Ponca and Winnebago tribes.

Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, the U.S. Senator from California, was among the record number of participants in the historic event. She spoke on Tuesday afternoon via a Skype connection that was shown at the Orpheum Theatre in the city, a crossroads for Indian nations throughout the region.

Kevin Abourezk of Indianz.Com and Leo Yankton, a co-host of our "Indian Times" podcast, broadcast from the event. They shared their thoughts on Harris and her presentation in a Facebook live video.

You can also listen to Harris at the Frank LaMere Native American Presidential Forum on the Indianz.Com SoundCloud. She was introduced by O.J. Semans, a citizen of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe who co-directs the advocacy organization Four Directions, one of the hosts of the event.

Harris kept her remarks about her 2020 presidential aspirations to less than 2 minutes in order for her to get to the discussion with tribal leaders and tribal citizens. She answered questions another half hour or so.
