AUDIO/VIDEO: Julián Castro at Frank LaMere Native American Presidential Forum

The Frank LaMere Native American Presidential Forum concluded after two days in Sioux City, Iowa, in the homelands of several tribes and a crossroads for Indian nations throughout the region.

Democratic presidential candidate Julián Castro, a former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, was among the record number of participants in the historic event. He spoke on Tuesday afternoon at the Orpheum Theatre in the city.

Kevin Abourezk of Indianz.Com and Leo Yankton, a co-host of our "Indian Times" podcast, broadcast from the event. They shared their thoughts on Castro and his presentation in a Facebook live video.

You can also listen to Castro at the Frank LaMere Native American Presidential Forum on the Indianz.Com SoundCloud. He was introduced by Christina Blackcloud, a citizen of the Meskwaki Nation who serves as vice chair of the Native American Caucus of the Iowa Democratic Party. She has endorsed Castro for president.

Castro, who led the Department of Housing and Urban Development during the Barack Obama administration, spoke about his comprehensive Indian Country platform and his 2020 presidential aspirations for almost 7 minutes. He then participated in a discussion with tribal leaders and tribal citizens for another half hour or so.
