Tim Giago: It's time to vote these buffoons out of office

Notes from Indian Country
The ballot is more powerful than buffoons and bigots

Donald Trump called Kim Jong-un “Little Rocket Man” and Kim responded by calling Trump a “Dotard” and “Frightened Dog.” And then they met face-to-face and fell in love.

After all was said and done and after the name calling ended, Kim still has his nuclear arsenal and rockets that can reach the USA.

Trump has exhibited failure after failure and what makes the failures most memorable are the lies he tells in order to justify his failures.

The Washington Post has documented more than 10,000 lies Trump has told since 2017. Here we have a man that has been accused of sexual assault by more than 20 women, was best of friends with a man now accused of running a sex ring, saw his Secretary of Labor resign because of his connections to the same man, saw his threats to add citizenship to the 2020 Census go up in smoke, and yet the Evangelicals and his political base still cling to his every lie.

A Republican lady named Scyller Borglum decides to run against Republican Senator Mike Rounds for his senate seat. She immediately squashes any chance of support by many of us when she accuses Rounds of not standing strongly enough behind Trump. Excuse us? Rounds has never disagreed with a single lie that Trump has told. He has been complicit in all of the illegal acts of Trump that would have landed most people in prison.

The same goes for South Dakota’s other Republican Senator John Thune. It appears that the Republicans no longer have a party, they have a cult. If one was not under the demonic spell of a master prevaricator, womanizer, and prospective dictator, why would they tolerate his outrageous chicanery?

Just look at how many faithful Republicans have simply abandoned the Republican Party. They also see that the extreme swing to the right under Trump is not in the best interests of the country they love.

What is most frightening about all of this is that the true nature of many Americans has come out of the shadows. Trump’s followers are no longer closet bigots, but are outright Nazis and White Supremists.

Every minority in America knew that these people were out there because they ran into their subtle bigotry all of the time. That bigotry is no longer subtle but is out there for everyone to see simply because they have a pretender in the White House who is supportive of their bigotry and hatred.

When you see a mob carrying burning torches and waving flags with the swastika emblazoned on them and hear their chants against the Jews (The Jews will not replace us) as they parade on a street in Charlottesville, Virginia, spewing racist hatred and then to hear Trump say that there were good people in this march of bigots is only one of the dark moments in the era of Trump. But it goes to the very core of what America is supposed to represent. Americans fought and died in a war to defeat Nazism and Fascism and to see the 1930s Germany come alive in our own country has to send a chill down the spine of every American.

No one I know saw “good people” marching among the Nazis and white supremists that day and there has to be something seriously wrong with those people who did.

But Trump has a base that would walk over burning coals for him no questions asked. They are frightening reminders of the Brown Shirts who marched through Germany on “Kristallnacht” looting and burning the Jewish owned businesses and beating any Jew they caught on the street. In the year 2019 we are getting a scary glimpse of 1933 and what is scarier we are seeing the people who followed Adolph Hitler blindly emerging in the same fashion as the followers of Trump. For those who lived through those times the comparison is real.

Many years ago predictions were made that one day there would arise a man in America with the intentions of becoming a dictator. He would be supported by millions of bigots who would take every lie he told as the Gospel truth. They would be too blind to see that like lemmings they were about to be led off of the cliffs to their demise.

This Nation is still a Democracy and the one tool that every American has to stop this madness is called the vote. We must, every one of us, get off of our couches and get to the Polls. In 2020 ballots will be more powerful than buffoons and bullets.
