Elizabeth Cook-Lynn: Native people are making change in our community

So much history is being made these days right here in our little world:  the stunning emergence of Native women participating in the  local elections in this racist town for the first time in our memories, and making a successful showing that suggests change might be in the offing; the work of the newest  NDN “Collective” (317 Main Street, Rapid City),  an organization whose president and CEO,  Nick Tilsen has most recently shown that their work against racism and discrimination to be on point,  organizing this month’s march supported by all of the tribes as well as the ACLU in a public move against the racist laws being promulgated by our Governor who tells us through her illegal legislative attempts that she doesn’t like “protesters” and Indians against the XL Pipeline.

The kind of recent native participation in public affairs in this city is helping all of us get on the right track in the midst of larger fields of chaos.  I was reminded of that larger world when I opened my mail to read a letter from a friend of mine who has moved to Florida and keeps in touch on the broader issues.

Her letter started with the question:  “Have you read the Mueller Report?” and answered herself by saying “many have not.” It is true that I am among the many of who have not read it.

Her point is that we all should read this report and understand that the Mueller report gives us the undeniable evidence that America’s election process has been under attack during the whole rise of Trump as commander of chief.  She says the evidence is clear that Russians orchestrated a massive organized high tech infiltration of every aspect of American communication and social media, and are preparing to do it again.

She complains that Florida’s senators (Rubio & Scott) are doing nothing and, as a former resident of South Dakota, she takes note that our senators are not only “doing noting” but are actually in support of our “duped” American President.
