Carly McIntosh: The word that we don't speak about

Centuries of The Unspoken Word
“At this rate the word must be destroyed”
By Carly McIntosh

As I sit here typing each letter one by one, I can feel the pain my people are going through at this exact moment and it hurts.

To this day this word has been hidden from us, taken from us, and millions have been labeled by using it. It seems many don’t know the meaning of the word or fear speaking of the word.

I am one that is willing to speak for my people, but it has been drawn to the point where as the only people that stand behind me are my people. Not one person feels what we feel, sees what we see, or has to deal with what we deal with everyday of our life. The percentage rate of people dealing with this health issue has grown to over sixty-five million and each day that number is increasing.

The situation has come to hurting so many, such as myself, that many have fallen and we have lost them. The precise word is well hidden by the medical system and is an issue that has been underfunded since the beginning of time. If they do not understand the situation, then it seems better to solve the problem just by hiding the concern.

Everyday we exist, a horrible feeling will take hold and that feeling places us closer to ending our chapter in life. No one understands what we are saying and that is the moment our faith starts to run dry. A myth was spoken many decades ago and I believe many still have belief in it.

When I fall to the ground and my body starts to shake it has been said that the devil is trying to escape from my body. Many things have been said about me and my people but the situation has still not been resolved.

Being one person out of millions I am the only one fighting to save lives and bring awareness to this crisis situation. Many have never been given the help that they need which only leads them feeling isolated, distraught and forgotten.

Being one who speaks for many, there is not much I can do but keep count of how many have fallen today. The pain becomes stronger day by day because we are all judged and labelled by what we do and not for who we are. Many of my people and I have lost our family, friends, career and our joy in life.

As you close your eyes, I want you to imagine that you are in constant danger every single day of your life. The feeling of dread and the fear of the unknown continues to haunt us everyday.

That is what me and my people live with everyday of our life and no one understands. Speaking for myself, I am one who has come back to reality not even knowing where it is that I am. A dark cloud forms above us right at the moment of birth and will not leave until we leave.

Racism has been spoken of and heard of, residential schooling has been spoken of and heard of, homosexuality has been spoken of and heard of, but one word still is unspoken of. It’s painful seeing what little has been done and it still continues onward.

Many of us living with this issue have been waiting for support for far to long and have come to our breaking point. If this health issue does not become a known topic to the public then you will be losing many of us and more to come.

The word is Epilepsy.
