Chairman of Red Lake Nation schedules annual State of the Band Address
Chairman Darrell G. Seki, Sr. of the Red Lake Nation will deliver the State of the Band Address on Friday, February 22.
Seki, who is serving his second term in office, will recap the tribe's actions in 2018. He will also outline goals for the coming year.
Last year's speech focused largely on the opioid crisis. Seki said nearly every aspect of the Red Lake community, from public safety to social services, has been affected.
“We must have respect for all people and all things. We need to work together to deal with drugs," Seki said at the time. "We need to heal. We need education because incarceration does not work."
"We must work together. I hate it when my phone rings, I fear it may be another report of overdose," Seki said.
The State of the Band Address will be delivered at 11am at the Seven Clans Casino Event Center in Red Lake, Minnesota.
