The Northern Cheyenne Tribe has often made history, but this week, we find ourselves in a new jam: we are now leaderless!

Effective, October 12, L. Jace Killsback, the duly elected Tribal President has resigned and effective November 17, the Tribal Vice-President, Conrad Fisher, also elected at large, has put out word that he is quitting too.

As it is popular sport, especially for the Tribal Council, to pick on our top two tribal officials, we, the Northern Cheyenne are somewhat astonished and disappointed that they are abandoning their posts. Who, we wonder, is going to sign checks? And, who are we going to pick on now?

In the meantime, the tribal constitution calls for a general election to fill both seats, somewhat of an expense to the broke tribal government. That will take a while, so in the meantime, it is likely that William Walksalong, the tribal Chief Executive Officer, also a formerly deposed Tribal President will take charge, being a “check-signer” too.
