indiancountrymedianetwork.com A Kansas Republican official unleashed a racist, homophobic attack on Sharice Davids Tuesday. According to the Kansas City Star, a Facebook message from precinct committeeman Michael Kalny of Shawnee to Anne Pritchett, president of the Johnson County Democratic Women’s north chapter, attacked Davids. Davids is running against Rep. Kevin Yoder. “Little Ms. Pritchett- you and your comrades stealth attack on Yoder is going to blow up in your leftist face,” Kalny wrote. “The REAL REPUBLICANS will remember what the scum DEMONRATS tried to do to Kavanaugh in November. Your radical socialist kick boxing lesbian Indian will be sent back packing to the reservation.” Davids, Ho Chunk, would be the first Native American woman to ever serve in Congress and would be the first lesbian to represent Kansas. Davids told the Star that the hate message “doesn’t represent Kansas values, and it doesn’t represent the values of the Republicans we know, many who support this campaign.” The executive director of the Kansas Republican Party was critical of the Kalny message.
This comes on a good day for Davids. She was endorsed by former Vice President Joe Biden. “The people of Kansas deserve a representative who understands their concerns and shares their struggles,” Biden said. “Sharice lives those struggles herself and has focused her career on creating opportunities for middle-class families to get ahead. That work will continue in Congress, where Sharice will reach across the aisle to get things done for her district and our country. She’ll work hard to expand access to healthcare, to protect people with pre-existing conditions, and to make sure everyone has opportunities to succeed.” Davids said she was honored by the endorsement. “Vice President Biden and I share a commitment to service and a strong desire to expand the opportunities available to everyone. He understands the need for affordable healthcare, quality public education, and civil discourse among our leaders.,” she said. :I look forward to working together with him to create a better future for the Third District.” Mark Trahant is the editor of Indian Country Today.
