Some employees at the
Department of the Interior aren't loyal to "the flag,"
Secretary Ryan Zinke told an industry group, The Associated Press reports.
Zinke spoke to a meeting of the
National Petroleum Council in Washington, D.C., on Monday. He said a significant percentage of his employees aren't loyal to him or
President Donald Trump, according to the AP.
“I got 30 percent of the crew that’s not loyal to the flag,” Zinke said, the AP reported.
It's not clear whether Zinke offered specifics about the allegedly disloyal employees. But he said a reorganization of the department will restore accountability and put decision-making in the hands of field offices, according to the AP.
So far, Zinke has taken the opposite approach when it comes to the
Bureau of Indian Affairs. For example, decisions on
off-reservation land-into-trust applications are being handled by political staff in D.C., not in the regions where tribes are located.
