Indian relay team from Blackfeet Nation wins title at Calgary Stampede

An Indian relay team based on the Blackfeet Nation took the top title at the Calgary Stampede in Canada.

Carlson Relay defeated three other teams during the event on Tuesday, Reuters reported. The prize was $100,000 Canadian, or about $78,000 in U.S. currency.

"Hopefully some other natives will see this and it will get them into it," winning rider Chazz Racine told Reuters. "It can open doors for you."

Racine and Carlson Relay won the championship at the Indian Relay Racing at Emerald Downs in 2016. The team returned to defend its title this year but Starr School -- also from the Blackfeet Nation -- took the Gold Cup in June .
