The inaugural
Standing Rock Nation Film and Music Festival
takes place this weekend.
Phyllis Young, an elder from the
Standing Rock Sioux Tribe
, is the president and founder of the event., which features film, music and more. She was sitting on the tribal council when she told the wealthy backers of the
Dakota Access Pipeline
not to come to her people's territory, a warning that helped
spark the international #NoDAPL movement
“We all share the same air and drink water, and by showing the stories that focus on the struggle to protect natural resources, sacred sites and human rights,” Young said in a
press release
announcing the festival.
The event takes place June 2-4 at the
Prairie Knights Casino & Resort
on the North Dakota portion of the reservation.
