The Mashantucket Tribal Nation has won approval of a land-into-trust application, The New London Day reports.

The tribe was notified of the approval back in 2010 but the decision wasn't finalized until now, the paper reported. It's not clear why the Bureau of Indian Affairs waited so long to acquire the parcel in Ledyard, Connecticut.

The 1-acre property will be used for housing, the tribe's director of communications told the paper.
