The Lytton Band of Pomo Indians has reclaimed another piece of its ancestral territory.

The tribe paid $30 million for a 564-acre site in Healdsburg, California, The Santa Rosa Press-Democrat reported. The property is near the tribe's former reservation, which was taken from the Lytton people when they lost federal recognition in 1961.

“It’s an amazing turn of events for this tribe. Not long ago, they were shopping there and now they own the land,” attorney Larry Stidham told the paper, referring to the site's longtime owner, The Salvation Army.

After being homeless for decades, the tribe has slowly been acquiring land in northern California.
