The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas has turned over information about a homicide investigation to federal authorities.

Spencer Sadler, 28, was found dead on the reservation on the morning of April 17. A 22-year-old tribal member named Matthew Battise has since been arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon in San Jacinto County court, according to news reports.

There's been little information beyond those details. KTRE has asked the tribe, local officials and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for documents about the case but has been told they aren't available.

Battise could face federal charges but his name does not appear in the federal court system in East Texas as of Monday afternoon.

"On the tribal end, the investigation has been turned over the the US Attorney General's Office. They must decide on moving forward by federal prosecutors," tribal attorney Chuck McDonald told last month.

Sadler left behind a six-year-old daughter, according to news reports.
