nsweekly.com RAPID CITY –– Mia Jesperson, 14, has been located after over four months of being reported as a runaway in Rapid City. Jesperson is currently staying with her father in Colorado. Elena Bagola has been searching for her daughter, Mia, for several months without success; even so far as confronting meth dealers/users, members of a motorcycle gang, street gangs and individuals who have been actively concealing her daughter’s whereabouts. Earlier this month, North Rapid City resident, Cary Coffman posted a picture of himself and Mia kissing on his personal Facebook page. He also changed his relationship status to “In a Relationship” and that he was in a relationship with “My love M.J.” These are the alleged initials of Mia Jesperson. Mia’s mother, Elena, has been in contact with Native Sun News throughout the time period her daughter has been missing. She has expressed her disappointment in the search by law enforcement, whom she feels, “They are not doing enough. It seems like they aren’t even trying.”

NSN contacted Brendyn Medina, who handles media relations for the Rapid City Police Department, in May, who assured the RCPD was doing all they could, but could not comment specifically on the case of Mia Jesperson as she is a minor. Bagola filed a Runaway CHINS (Child In Need of Services) petition in juvenile court. A CHINS action is a civil proceeding used by the juvenile justice system to get minor children to conform to home rules and attend school on a regular basis.
